Both films are expected to rake in a collective estimated collection of Rs 40-50 crore nett on Day 1. With theIndependence Day holiday falling on Tuesday, the films are expected to have a 5-day collective collection of Rs 200 crore. Should the films fail to perform as well as expected, it could still rake in an estimated Rs 150 crore at the box office.That’s not all, the box office will get an added boost from collections coming in from the release of Superstar Jainikanth‘s Jailer, which hits theatres today. The film is expected to earn an opening day collection of around Rs 25 crore.
While the Rajini starrer is expected to walk away with the title of the highest-earning film this coming weekend, ‘Gadar 2’ won’t be as far behind. The same, however, can’t be said about Akki’s OMG 2, which has been mired in controversy since its trailer launch last month.
Nonetheless, the Hindi box office is expected to get a big boost in numbers after a dull first half.
The Hollywood releases Barbie and Oppenheimer also worked wonders for Indian theatre chains, with fans flocking in large numbers to catch the screenings. Thanks to the good reviews, hype and great word of mouth, the film shot past the 100 crore mark in its first weekend.
